Efforts of the Association :
Some of the important activities
undertaken by the Association were
-
1) Formation of different study groups
to go into the details of the specifications
of textile machinery required by the
textile industry.
2) Representing the TMI on the Working
Groups set up by the Planning Commission
for the Five-Year Plans, participating
in their meetings and submitting necessary
inputs from the Textile Machinery
Industry.
3) Continued representation on the
Development Council for Textile Machinery
set up by the Government of India
and contributing to the implementation
of the recommendations made therein.
4) Establishment of a Joint Consultative
Body to look into the mills’
complaints on indigenous textile machinery.
5) Evolving price increase formulae
for textile machinery in co-operation
with the user industry and the Government.
6) Bringing out documentary films,
audio visuals and video films depicting
the image of the industry for screening
to prospective buyers in India as
well as abroad.
7) Giving wide sectoral publicity
to the products of member-manufacturers
by way of advertisements etc. at the
industry level in overseas textile
magazines/newspapers thus projecting
both the industry’s and the
national image.
8) Participating in International
Fairs and Exhibitions relating to
textile machinery, parts and accessories.
9) It was at the TMMA level that the
proposal to set up the India-ITME
Society was mooted and subsequently
implemented with the exclusive purpose
of organising International Textile
Machinery Exhibitions every four years
in India in line with those being
organised by CEMATEX in Europe and
ATME in America. The Society has already
organised five Exhibitions in Mumbai
from 1980 to 2004 and the 8th in the
series will be held in Mumbai from
December 2008.
10) Sponsoring delegations/study teams/sales
teams to different countries for studying
the market potential for Indian textile
machinery, parts and accessories.
11) The Association had been inviting
various delegations to visit India
to show them our manufacturing facilities:
delegations from Myanmar (Burma),
Bangladesh, Tanzania, Uganda, Indonesia,
Poland, South Korea, GDR, Bulgaria,
Russia, Italy, Vietnam, Mexico etc.
had visited India.
12) TMMA had also been actively associated
with the World Bank Teams which visited
India to carry out detailed survey
of the Textile and Textile Machinery
Industries.
13) In order to encourage exporters,
the Association instituted in 1969
an Export Awards Scheme under which
awards were given every year for excellence
in export performance in different
sectors of the industry.
14) One of the creditable achievements
of the Association on export front
was setting up of a complete turnkey
spinning project in Ubango, Tanzania
through a consortium of machinery
manufacturers under the Association’s
umbrella.
15) In the field of Research and Development,
the Association encourages import
substitution, sends technical oriented
delegations to important international
exhibitions and conferences abroad
with a view to studying latest technological
developments in textile machinery
and promoting transfer of latest technology
to India.
16) The Association has been closely
associated itself in the R&D efforts
of various Textile Research Associations
for the country and contributed substantially
to strengthen their infrastructure
in Research and Development of textile
machinery.
17) TMMA has submitted reports to
the Government on low cost technology
machines for the handloom sector.
18) The Association has instituted
a Technical and R&D Awards Scheme
to encourage development of indigenous
technology.
19) It has set up G.K.Devarajulu Chair
at the Indian Institute of Technology,
Mumbai to train Engineering Graduates
leading to Post-Graduation in Textile
Engineering. Implementation of Rs.500
million (about US$ 12 million) project
proposal for Textile Machinery R&D
Centre is taken on hand.
20) On the recommendation of the Development
Council for Textile Machinery Industry
a High Power Committee consisting
of representatives of the Textile
Machinery Industry, Textile Mill Industry,
Office of the Textile Commissioner
etc. was set up and an assessment
for the long term demand for the modernisation
of the Textile Industry was made and
submitted to the Government.
21) The Association is one of the
sponsors of the Federation of Indian
Textile Engineering Industry.
22) The Association has submitted
to the Government necessary inputs
on the indigenous availability of
textile machinery, parts and accessories
enabling it to frame suitable trade
policy for Textile and Textile Machinery
Industries.
23) In the liberalised economic and
trade regime, the Association has
been encouraging its members to upgrade
their technology in keeping with the
developments taking place elsewhere
in the world, induces them to acquire
ISO 14000 accreditation, inhouse development,
participation in the Technological
Seminars and Conferences etc. to be
competitive both in the domestic and
international markets.
24) TMMA is one of the segments in
preparing the long term Action Plan
for promoting export of textile machinery.
25) The TMMA (I) has played a significant
role in the formulation of the Textile
Policy by the Government of India
with a view to boosting the demand
for the indigenous textile machinery
& accessories.
26) In the realm of liberalisation
of economy and trade, the Association
has been the guiding source to its
members to compete in the domestic
as well as international markets by
upgrading their technologies, adhering
to the delivery schedules and providing
effective sales-after-service.
