Department of Heavy Industry (DHI) & FICCI are jointly organizied a workshop on “Technology Development for Capital Goods: Constraints & the Way Forward” on 6th July 2015 (Monday), 2 pm onwards at Siemens Limited, 130, Pandurang Budhkar Marg, Worli, Mumbai 400018. Shri Anant Geete, Hon’ble Minister for Heavy Industries & Public Enterprises has inaugurated the Workshop.
The Indian capital goods sector faces many challenges. It suffers from technology & knowledge obsolescence. As a result, India has become one of the largest importers of capital goods in the world with annual imports of US $ 20 billion. This adversely affects the indigenous capital goods industry and user industries, which face closures, loss of employment, investment and growth opportunities and also high cost of conversion.
To overcome these constraints, Ministry of Heavy Industry & Public Enterprises has notified a pilot Scheme “Enhancement of Competitiveness in the Indian Capital Goods Sector”. The scheme seeks to provide grant support to institutions for setting up and strengthening the technology development infrastructure and common manufacturing/services infrastructure. The details of the Scheme could be found at www.dhi.nic.in. The workshop aims to discuss the constraints faced by the capital goods industry. It also creates awareness about the Scheme and to invite wider industry participation.
